Astragalus membranaceaus is used as a medicinal plant in China. It is used as a natural supplement for various health conditions. There are three components in Astragalus that have a positive impact on a person’s health. These three elements are saponins, polysaccharides and flavoids that are also found in other plants. These elements help in lowering cholesterol levels, preventing cancer and boosting the immune system. The plant has health benefits in the human body. It can have side effects such as gastrointestinal effects and diarrhoea. It can be risky for people with certain health problems; therefore, one need to consult the doctor before using, especially when a person has a medical condition such as blood disorders, diabetes, or hypertension.

Astragalus membranaceaus grows well in areas with dry sandy soils, mountain thickets, coniferous forests, meadows, steppes and xerophytes shrubs. It can be grown in other parts where there is an optimum condition, but it is good to note that the plant can be invasive in some areas. It is therefore good to check out if the plant is invasive before it can spread when growing for the first time. It is good for biodiversity and soil development because it can fix nitrogen in the soil.
