It is native to the tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Australia. It is known by the common names Bengal almond, , Singapore almond, Tropical almond etc...


It grows to 35 m (115 ft) tall, with an upright, symmetrical crown and horizontal branches. Terminalia catappa has corky, light fruit that are dispersed by water. The seed within the fruit is edible when fully ripe, tasting almost like almond.

Leaves are used as herbal medicine.

 

Growing from seeds:

take a knife and make a cut into the seed coat to speed up germination. Otherwise it could take months. Then let the seed soak with water for about 3-4 days, then sow about 3cm in compost, keep moist and store at a warm place. 6 weeks must be expected until germination.
