Oxheart tomato is a member of the species Solanum lycopersicum or as its alternatively known Lycopersicon esculentum. There are several Oxheart tomato varieties that each grow indigenously in different parts of the world. It is, therefore, impossible to clearly pinpoint where this plant is originally from. Thus, the cultivation of Oxheart tomatoes happens in all regions in the world that have conducive weather conditions for its growth. The fruit is large, fleshy and heart-shaped. The shape of the fruit changes from plant to plant and sometimes, the variation can extend to the same plant.

The colours of the fruit also vary across different varieties. The colours include pink, red, yellow and black. Not only do Oxheart tomatoes have a sweet, rich and complex taste, they are also juicy and fleshy. The fruit is eaten immediately or added to burgers as topping or sandwiches as filling. One can also use the fruit in the preparation of pastes, sauces and soups. Tomatoes can be diced and used in salads as well. The Oxheart plant is a tender perennial, and one would be well advised to grow it is as an annual for the sake of good yields. The plant takes 75 to 100 days mature. How early or late maturation happens will depend on the variety of Oxheart it is.
