The plant is indigenous to countries that reside in the Asian tropical and temperate regions. Such countries include Nepal, India, China, Pakistan, and Bhutan. The plant’s leaves are papery, ovate and have a length of 4.5 to 11 cm and a width of 2.6 to 7 cm. The inflorescence has many flowers of different colours including pink, purple, white and pale yellow. Each flower has a length of between 6 to 8 mm long. The seeds are ovate, brown, and have a length of 8 to 9 mm. The plant’s roots contain a type of ethanol that is currently undergoing research and testing to see whether it’s capable of yielding cancer medication. The initial results seem positive enough given the ethanol’s cytotoxic properties affect the tumour cells. The roots are also edible and are a popular starchy food in several parts of China. The roots pair well with many condiments and are, therefore, a regular fixture in Chinese cuisine. Cynanchum auriculatum is also a regular source of herbal remedies for the Chinese people. The plant is reliable now just as it has been for centuries. The plant’s remedies supposedly have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties that aid them in curing some conditions.
