Ipomoea purpurea-Carnevale di Venezi is one of several varieties of Ipomoea purpurea. The latter being a hybrid variety of the species Ipomoea nil. The synonyms of Ipomoea purpurea-Carnevale di Venezi include Convolvulus purpureus L., Ipomoea glandulifera and Ipomoea diversifolia. The origins of the plant lie primarily in Mexico and several parts of Central America. Despite having the name Carnevale di Venezi, which translates to ‘Venice Carnival,’ Venice is not where the plant is from originally. Ipomoea purpurea-Carnevale di Venezi is a fast growing climbing herb which can grow to a height of 3 metres. The flowers have a mix of blue and pink accompanied with intricate markings once they reach maturity. Moreover, each flower has a trumpet shape and is between 3 and 6 cm in diameter. The flowers die off quickly and get replaced the next day. The production of fresh blooms continues throughout the summer months.
