Ipomoea purpurea-La Vie en Rose is one of the many cultivars of Ipomoea purpurea. Ipomoea purpurea, a hybrid of the species Ipomoea nil, also goes by the name of Common Morning Glory. Synonyms of the La vie en Rose include Convolvulus purpureus L., Ipomoea glandulifera and Ipomoea diversifolia. Central America and Mexico are the original home of this herbaceous climber and provide locations for a lot of its present distribution. La Vie en Rose thrives in the tropics. The plant can grow to a height of 2 to 3 metres. Flowers are numerous, trumpet-shaped, mauve in colour and have a diameter of 3 to 6 cm. The stem has brown hairs while the leaves are ovate and taper off to a sharp point. La Vie en Rose produces fresh blooms every day to replace those that die out. This process goes on throughout the summer months and into early fall. La Vie en Rose is considered either a noxious weed or a prized ornamental. The opinion usually varies depending on where you are in the world. Most of the cultivation happens in places where the beauty of the plant has currency in landscaping. One can expect to find La Vie en Rose in gardens, trellises, fences, front yards, etc. Given the plant grows outward and spreads out uniformly, it can create a cover that’s suitable for fences. La Vie en Rose is an annual plant and the flowering period only last from early summer to the early fall. It, therefore, follows that one can only enjoy the ornamental effect for one summer. La Vie en Rose grows best under long spells of sunlight which facilitates its speedy growth and flowering. The plant prefers fertile soils that have good drainage and high moisture content. The pH of the soils should neither be too basic nor too acidic.
