Common names for the plant include mududu (in Luganda) and angel’s trumpet. Brugmansia suaveolens-orange is originally from South Eastern Brazil where it grew for centuries before becoming extinct in the wild. This fact, therefore, means that the successful introduction of the species into different habitats led it spreading beyond its native range. The new plants constitute a greater chunk of the plant population in the world. Brugmansia suaveolens-orange can reach a height of 3 to 5 metres at maturity. The leaves are ovate and have a length of 25 cm and a width of 15 cm. The flowers are fragrant, orange, trumpet-shaped, and have a length of 24 to 32 cm. Each flower slightly droops downward. Most of the plant’s global distribution lies in South and Central America. The plant’s growth is also prevalent in many parts of Mexico and the United States. Brugmansia suaveolens-orange is a common plant is many residential areas in South America due to its ornamental attributes. The plant’s large beautiful fragrant flowers and lush foliage are the source of its appeal. One can, therefore, expect to find it growing in front yards, gardens, and parks. Brugmansia suaveolens-orange also serves as a popular hedge in Uganda. In addition to its aesthetic qualities, the plant is also used to add flavour to beer and to make tea. Every part of the plant is toxic, and one should think twice about consuming it. Ingesting the plant could lead to diarrhoea, hallucinations, and paralysis. Brugmansia suaveolens-orange is not a hardy plant and thus, cannot tolerate extreme temperatures. The plant can only tolerate cold temperatures up to a low of 5˚C. One can propagate the plant using either the leafy tip or wood cuttings.
