Aji Pineapple Chilli Pepper seeds

Aji pineapple is a variety of the Capsicum baccatum pepper species of the genus Capsicum. This unique and colourful pepper has its origins in Brazil where it’s been an ever-present ingredient in their cuisine for many years. Aji pineapple is currently widely grown in many parts of South America and North America in areas with suitable weather conditions. The Aji Pineapple tree is bushy, big and a very productive plant which often leads to it requiring stakes in order to stay upright. Unripe pods are green in colour before the ripening process begins after which they transition to a canary yellow hue.

The pods are conical-shaped and have a length of between 6-7 cm and a width of 4cm. The taste of Aji Pineapple pepper is slightly reminiscent of pineapples hence its name. With regard to heat, Aji Pineapple registers between 20,000 and 30,000 Scoville Heat Units. The combination of heat and sweetness provides a unique culinary experience that enlivens salsas, salads and hot sauces. The timeframe between planting and the ripening of the fruit takes no less than 80 days. Given the high productivity of Aji Pineapple plants, one should expect upwards of 400 fruits from a healthy mature plant.
